Finding the Right Vet in Your Area
LocalVet makes it simple to find veterinary clinics, animal hospitals, and specialist practices near you. Here is how to get the most out of your search.
Quick Search
- Go to the LocalVet homepage or click the search bar at the top of any page.
- Type a location — this can be a postcode, suburb, city name, or full address.
- Press Search or hit Enter to see results.
Results are displayed in order of distance from your search location, with the closest clinics shown first.
Using Your Current Location
For the fastest results, click the Use My Location button. Your browser will ask for permission to access your location — click Allow, and LocalVet will immediately show you the nearest vets. This is especially useful when you are away from home or travelling with your pet.
Refining Your Results
Use the filter panel to narrow down your results:
- Services — filter by dental care, surgery, vaccinations, microchipping, desexing, and more.
- Species — find vets that treat specific animals like cats, dogs, birds, reptiles, or horses.
- Opening hours — show only clinics open right now, or those with after-hours availability.
- Ratings — filter to show only clinics above a certain star rating.
- Distance — adjust the search radius from 5km up to 50km.
Understanding Search Results
Each result card shows you the key information at a glance:
- Clinic name, address, and distance from your location.
- Average star rating and number of reviews.
- Opening status — whether the clinic is currently open or closed.
- Special badges like Verified, Emergency, or Featured.
Tips for Better Results
- Use a specific postcode rather than a broad city name for more accurate distance calculations.
- If you are looking for a specialist, try typing the specialty name (e.g. "dermatology" or "orthopaedic") in the search bar.
- Save clinics you are interested in by clicking the heart icon — you can compare them later from your saved list.
